Shepard-Luce Choice Rule

Published:
Summary: The Shepard-Luce choice rule is a choice rule for a human to identify if an object $x$ is in a category $i$. $$ P(\text{x is i}) = \frac{\nu(x, i)}{\sum_{j\in R} \nu(x, j)} $$ $\nu(x,i)$: strength of evidence that $x$ is $i$ $R$ all the responses categories of categories for $x$. $j$ is one category out of $R$. $i$ has to be a category of $R$. The Shepard-Luce choice can be used in both choice modes and race models.

Lexical Decision Task

Published:
Summary: From Vandekerckhove, Matzke, and Wagenmakers the lexical decision task, a task in which participants have to decide quickly whether a letter string is an existing word (e.g., sunscreen) or not (e.g., tolphin). When repeatedly presented with the same stimuli, participants show a power law decrease in their mean response latencies; in fact, they show a power law decrease in the entire response time distribution, that is, both the fast responses and the slow responses speed up with practice according to a power law (Logan, 1992).
